In 2017, the artists were in a little sad mood. Like every winter, it was so cold in the workshops and there were plenty of printed works. So they decided to invent a celebration, the plan was to make a scarecrow from prints every year and burn it, as if it were the beginning of some tradition. But they decided to create a sale/auction for friends and art lovers and sell prints for very budget prices so that everyone could afford a print. Despite the name, this is real joy, fun and excitement. We make our auction only once a year before the New Year holidays, it is truly a holiday for us and our guests. Our friend and DJ Mitya Kardash usually plays at the event, Oleksiy Gots is our photographer, the auctioneer for the first 5 years in a row was our friend, and last few years this role has been played by Oleksandr Dyomin - a star of Luhansk television and just a wonderful person.
The auction was created in collaboration with the Kiev print studio “Etching Room #1” for support and promotion of lithography and etching in Ukraine. The event is held once a year and consists of two parts – prints sale and the auction itself. Photos above depict the event held in 2018.

Sad price is an annual auction created by two art collectives Lithography30 and Etchingroom#1. They are artists who have been engaged in printed graphics for many years, mainly lithography and etching, and have their own studios. Lithography30 is an association of 3 artists: Taras Koblyuk, Nina Savenko, and Alisa Gots. For more than 10 years, they have been developing their own lithographic workshop in Kyiv and mostly work in the technique of lithography on stone. Today, it is the only independent lithographic workshop in Ukraine. EtchingRoom1 is an art group founded in 2016 by two graphic artists, Kristina Yarosh and Anna Khodkova in Kyiv. The artists work in the etching technique, create mosaics and installations. Both studios participate in exhibition and educational projects related to hand printing and fine art in Ukraine and abroad.
